You are what you feed your biome.
I came across this book over the summer while at the airport having realised I completely forgot to bring a book with me for my holiday trip. I’m intrigued by all things gut related so figured I’d give it a go – even though I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a terribly slow reader when it comes to the more scientific genres (give me a romantic historical fiction on the other hand…) I finished this book over the weekend I was away, it was just that good.
If you are new to learning about the gut and it’s fascinating micro biome, and if you are at all like me and struggle with overly complicated explanations of the human body – you’ll love this book. Incredibly in depth, but in an easy to comprehend manner, this book is enlightening as it delves into the gut, which happens to be an important determinant of both our physical and mental health – breaking down our micro biome as you learn its impacts on the foods you are drawn to (cravings), your metabolism, allergies and illnesses and more. You will read about different diets and the scientific evidence (or lack thereof) behind them – noting that though some diets may help you loose weight, keeping that weight off is a whole other matter. Dr. Michael Mosley also walks you through the ever shifting industry recommendations for health and weight loss, highlighting the importance of good fats and leaning towards a more Mediterranean diet.
The book offers ways to reboot your biome (remove/repair and reintroducing foods) and a great list of recipes you can follow for a happy, healthy gut.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
